Prehistoric and Norse settlement with over 4000 of human history. Open 9.30am to 4.30pm in the summer. Different winter times - see website.

Staneydale

Enclosed Stone Circle and neolithic farmstead. Small parking bay at roadside. Free entry. Open all year but gets a bit boggy so boots recommended. Look out for Red Grouse in this area.

The castle was the home of Patrick Stewart Earl of Orkney and Shetland built around 1599. Open to the public but currently closed for essential repairs

Brousta

Neolithic homestead overlooking the bridge of Walls and Brousta Loch. It has several oval houses and interlinked fields. There is also a circular cairn and other unidentified buildings. Parking by the roadside, free entry.  Gets a bit boggy underfoot so boots are recommended

Open May through August at the Galley Shed in Lerwick. Tuesday and Thursdays 6.30pm to 8.30pm and Saturdays 2pm to 4pm. We recommend you check the webpage for current details of opening dates. Colourful and informative exhibition.

RAF Watsness

There is actually not much online about RAF Watsness Radar Station but there is a layby on the Watsness Road near a stile that gives you good access. There are still some buildings and foundations. Well worth going up for the view.
