Location

The Manse is surrounded by farm buildings so  children will need to be supervised. Most of Shetland gets very damp so we recommend a good pair of walking shoes or wellington boots and wet weather gear.

The coastal path goes right past the driveway so their are plenty of good walks.  In spring and early summer the cliffs below the house are full of wildflowers and the cliffs full of breeding Fulmars and Kittiwakes.

Lounge/Kitchen Diner

We appreciate we are a fair way from local eating establishments so we have set up a kitchen for your use with a microwave, oven and hobb. There is a shop at Walls and Bixter which both stock what you need. We do provide breakfast items for you to select and will have some staple food items for you on a donation basis.

A note for guests with disabilities: The Bedrooms and bathroom are  upstairs, but we have put an extra handrail so there is one each side to assist with guests who have difficulty with stairs.

Local area

West Mainland

Transport to Shetland is via either the Northlink ferry from Aberdeen or by flying into Sumburgh airport from Aberdeen, Inverness or Edinburgh. To get to Watsness from Lerwick takes around 40 minutes but it is a breathtaking drive passing some stunning scenery.. The road to Walls is well signposted from Lerwick and continues through Walls, up the hill, towards Watsness. We left off the road, 4 miles through Walls, on the A971 at the bottom of a well signposted road.

The Walls area of the Shetland mainland has stunning Atlantic coastlines and beautiful lochs. There is a local shop at Walls and also one at Bixter. For restaurants and takeaways there is plenty of choice in Lerwick. There is also a Tesco and a large Co-op in Lerwick.

Walls has a ferry that goes to Foula three times a week in the summer, but you need to stay a few days. The ferry to Papa Stour goes from West Burrafirth which is 10 miles away from Watsness. Papa Stour can be visited for the day but booking is advised.
